The dunes near Cervantes and the Pinnacles were definitely my favourite. At night the high dunes were amazing, disappearing off into the darkness like a frozen ocean of sand. It was easy to find fantastic compositions of sweeping dunes, or framing the top ridge of a dune, and in all directions darkness (apart from the head lights of vehicles travelling along the highway - but these were at a distance).
One of my favourite shots (although somewhat flawed) was done at the dunes. Here I stood on one of the high dunes and looked out over the sea of sand to the summer night skies - beholding the "anti-core" as it slowly ascended in the east.

Google Maps
Alas, no more.
Unfortunately the Department of Environment put these dunes off-limits to the public and access is no longer allowed. Whilst one could easily walk to the dunes (its almost right on the Indian Ocean drive), I adhere to the restriction - but with a heavy heart as these dunes were my favourite nightscape location.
