Lake Ninan is a nice lake by all accounts. From the spacious car park you can travel by 4wd south along the shore a bit to get to some more out the way parts of the lake where dead trees line the shore (I like dead trees, but not because they are dead - they just add to any photograph of lakes). The lake lies under dark skies mostly, but there is some light pollution on the horizon. The light pollution is minor, it will come out in photos but doesn't swamp any long exposures (refer image below looking west over the lake).

Google Maps
The great thing about this lake is the firm bottom, so you can walk out onto the lake a little way without sinking into mud. I always consider this a plus.
However, there is nothing outstanding about this lake (my opinion on its possibilities for nightscape photography). The skies are moderately dark with some light pollution. The lake only has a few dead trees, but not many. The lake often has water which can be a plus or a minus depending upon whether you like dry beds or water. So yeh, a lake to visit if you live north of the river.
Access is fairly straight forward - refer to the google maps links. You can camp in the camping area just off the shore. There are rubbish bins, picnic tables, and cell coverage - but no other facilities.
All round, a nice lake to visit in the wheatbelt.
