Wongan Hills Lookout
by admin · March 27, 2017
Near the town of Wongan Hills, and also Lake Ninan (a great nightscape location) is a lookout on top of - you guessed it - Wongan Hills. From this lookout one can view east and west over the fields in the region. As lookouts go, its good for landscapes, but otherwise pretty average in my opinion (sorry those from Wongan Hills - I do love the country side in your region...I'm just speaking from the point of view of nightscapes). There is a fair bit of bush looking east that you need to push through to image in that direction, and to the west a ridge line blocks the south-western horizon. Its not that it isn't great views, its just that you can probably get more appealing photos of fields when your are "closer in".
There is a dirt road to access it which is not suitable for caravans and such, but can be access via cars ok. There is ample car parking space at the top of the hill, although you will have to share it with the large communications tower as well.
If you take the time to travel to Wongan Hills (2 hours from Perth), I would highly recommend visiting Lake Ninan instead which is located south-west of the town of Wongan Hills, and maybe once you have finished with that spot only then duck off to Wongan Hills lookout to grab some "bonus" shots.
