The Blue Horsehead Nebula

by admin · August 4, 2021
Here is a quick capture of IC4592 - the Blue Horsehead nebula. The pale blue light of Nu Scorpii illuminates the surrounding reflection nebula, creating an almost ghostly apparition of a horse staring out through a field of stars.
This is a relatively dim nebula and under the bortle 3 skies of Chittering, Western Australia it takes a bit of effort to separate the detail from the sky glow. With only 3 hours of integration, this target probably needs a lot more effort from me to fully express its potential. However, with such a terrible winter season here in southwest WA (I'm forgetting what the sun looks like) I figure I'll do short sessions for a little while to get back into practice.
