Flinders Bay jetty is located north-east of the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse. There are a couple of jetties in this bay, with a park behind them providing some distance between the jetties and neighbouring houses. At night time the houses cast a pale light over the jetties and the waters, however the skies are dark enough to bring out the bright Milkyway core (not so sure about the anti-core region - the skies may be too bright).
I had never intended to do nightscape photography in this location - it was a detour when my trip to shoot the Cape Leeuwin lighthouse ended in disappointment (the lighthouse has an issue that the source light isn't just projected as beams overhead, but also an omni-direction light that quickly saturates any long exposure imaging).

CONSTRAINTS: light from houses behind limit shots west, but east and north east are relatively dark. Not very dark due to nearby town.
SUMMARY: its difficult to get a good view down the canal, but it is possible. Great views west with the ridge off-shore. Dark skies, excellent.
