Carina at The Gap
by admin · June 23, 2020

In Torndirrup National Park in Western Australia on a very rocky part of the wonderous coast line is what they call "The Gap". Here there is a sharp cut in the rock where the ocean waves concentrate and crash , sometimes sending huge jets of water up into the air.
Over the space has been built a viewing platform where one can stare down into the gap safely.
This photo was taken close to midnight so I had the entire area to myself. The Carina nebula takes the centre feature of this photo, prominent along the brighter edge of the Milkyway. The brown-red in the sky that looks like thin clouds is air glow, produce by chemi-luminescence in the upper atmosphere.
The Gap is only around 20 minutes drive south of Albany, Western Australia. Within walking distance is another great attraction of the southern coastline - Natural Bridge.
