Sugarloaf Rock is located near Yallingup, Western Australia. It is a wonderful large, granite island just off the coast and separated from the mainland by thin channels of rough water. It is a popular spot for photographers and sightseers alike, and also astrophotographers. With some prior planning, I managed to time my weekend holidays such that the nights had the moon rising in the early hours of the morning when the galaxy would be low on the western horizon. With the galaxy low, and the moon lighting up the foreground, I reckoned that this would allow me to use the longer focal length lenses which I prefer. In the end, the moon was probably a bit too bright...washing out the galaxy somewhat.
