The Field of Carina
by admin · April 8, 2021
The great Carina Nebula glows without peer in this image, nestled amongst a field of bright stars. The dense pack of stars towards the top right is the Wishing Well Cluster (NGC3532) and at the top left the grouping of bright blue stars is the generally known as the Southern Pleiades (IC2602).
The image was taken with a modified Canon EOS6D camera through a Redcat51 lens. The image is a mosaic of 2 x panels, with each panel consisting of 2min and 4min exposures and utilising HDR processing to reduced the brightness of the stars to bring out the nebula more. Total integration time of about 4 hours.
I had intended to continue this mosaic to include the Running Chicken nebula, but there are so many targets this time of year that I was keen to move on an image other wonders of the autumn southern skies.
